The longtime radio voice of Dowagiac went silent on Sunday, July 5, 2009.
Dean Bussler, 71, was born at home on Jan. 13, 1938, in Dowagiac, the son of Henry and Christine (Swartz) Bussler.
He was a graduate of Dowagiac Central High School in 1956.
Dean served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.
On June 12, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Judith Shante at First Christian Church in Dowagiac.
Dean worked for the radio station WDOW as a broadcaster and sales representative his entire career.
His familiar voice would be heard on the radio station calling sporting events for his much beloved Dowagiac Chieftains for more than 25 years.
Dean was a member of Michiana Church of Christ.
His loving family includes: his wife of 49 years, Judy Bussler of Dowagiac; his children, Jeanie Bussler of Dowagiac, Jim (Kristine) Bussler of Dowagiac, Mark Bussler of Belleview, Neb., and George Bussler of Kincheloe, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale (Rosemary) Bussler of Niles and Dick (Mary) Bussler of Coldwater.
Dean passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his son's home.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald.
His family will gather with friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home and Saturday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Michiana Church of Christ.
His funeral service will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Michiana Church of Christ led by Brother Gene Ellis.
