On July 4, most families enjoy fireworks, festivals, cookouts (and working on their cars).
But for others, whether devastated by tragedy, the economy or just plain bad luck, they don't know from where their next meal will come.
For the entire month of July, Ridge NAPA Auto Parts and Paint will be hosting a "Tin Can Rally" food drive and fundraiser to benefit local food banks.
During normal business hours at Ridge, 323 S. 11th St., Niles, customers can bring in non-perishable food items in exchange for 15 percent of their purchase.
In addition, for every NAPA Gold or ProSelect oil or air filter sold at retail price, Ridge donates $1 to food banks.
The goal is to enable food banks to restock their shelves due to the greater demand these past months.
This is part of Ridge NAPA Auto Part's continuing effort to give back to the community and to thank all who donate.
Ridge NAPA Auto Parts, based in South Bend, Ind., is locally owned and one of the largest distributors of auto parts, auto paint, equipment and machine shop services.
It also has locations in Dowagiac, Benton Harbor, Kalamazoo, Portage, Vicksburg and New Buffalo and, in Indiana, Mishawaka, Elkhart, Michigan City and LaPorte.
