Marian E. Sawvel, 82, of Hidden Valley Trail South, Niles, died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in her home, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church, Niles, with Pastor Bill Dudgeon, associate pastor and Pastor Isaiah Santos of Edwardsburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born on March 6, 1927, in Owosso, to Grover Freeman and Goldie M. Brown. She had lived in Niles since 2000, coming from Naples, Fla.
She retired from Adventist Risk management in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she served as the investment secretary and helped in the children divisions.
She was also a member of Niles Book Club, Adventist Retirees of Michiana at Andrews university.
She enjoyed oil painting, collecting frogs and miniature shoes and spoons.
On Nov. 4, 1945, in Owosso, she married Milo C. Sawvel, Jr., who died on Oct. 7, 2004.
Surviving family includes daughters, Phyllis S. (Clifford J.) Ruddle of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Pamela Jo (Michael) McHenry of San Antonio, Texas; Sons, Milo George (Carol) Sawvel of Auburn, Wash. and Donald C. (Lisa) Sawvel of Niles; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two brothers, Gorver Freeman of Bridgeport and Ronald Freeman of Sterling.
Memorial contributions may be made to in Investment Fund at Niles Westside SDA Church.
