Friends are putting on a benefit for Kameron Belew's scholarship fund at Dowagiac Lions Club, 28606 Bluebird Lane, this Friday, June 19.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Music starts at 8:00 p.m.
Cost is $3 for students, $5 for non-students or any other donation folks would like to give. This is open to people of all ages.
This is titled The Brook 16th Birthday-Belew Benefit.
It's something good coming out of a tragedy. These teens all chose to do this on their own because they thought there needed to be something safe and fun for tweens to do in Dowagiac.
Tony Brooks talked to his dad and the boys suggested they do something to give back to the community so everyone can see that not all tweens are bad, but that they are a great bunch of kids who want to help a family the best way they knew how, and that is with their music.
Tony's dad Toby Brooks and June and Keith Belew helped to get the ball rolling.
The Belew family has graciously given more than $20,000 in scholarships to students who wish to continue their education in the name of Kameron Belew at Dowagiac Union High School Awards Night.
"This will be an alcohol-free, safe place for our teens and young people to hang out and listen to a lot of great rock and roll metal music and have a good time. This event will be fully supervised by adults," according to Tony's mom, Tammy Brooks.
Bands playing are Chain Saw Blood Sample, Down Shift, Aisling and Oskillah!
There will be DJ dance music in between sets.
This event is sponsored by Chain Saw Blood Sample, whose members are Tony Brooks, Oscar Azevedo, Zack Hatch, Jon Richcreek and singer Dave Corrie, known as Davo.
Come on out and celebrate Kameron Belew's life with memories and a good time awhile listening or dancing to music and donate money for the Belew family to continue to give out as many scholarships as possible to our young people.
Kiele Belew and her parents presented their third annual $500 Kameron Belew Memorial Scholarships in May to Savannah Eby, Andrew Hurrle, Kayleigh Hutchings, Gregory Nelson and Christine Stanton.
Kameron, a former all-conference linebacker who graduated in 2005, was 19 when he died in an auto accident on Rudy Road Dec. 31, 2006.
