To the editor:
About the Furlough Days being discussed in the Niles Daily Star last week, by the 78th District Representative Sharon Tyler. I knew about this last week, when I received a Letter from Gov. Granholm. Why is it the Niles Daily Star and Rep. Sharon Tyler are a week behind in the State's News? Now instead of her returning the money to the State, she could have given the money to the four or five food banks in the Niles area, to help feed the children that will be attending schools next September or August. I found her gesture a big waste! Now if she had considered the food banks with a division of her monies, I would have considered voting for her in the 2010 Election, however, what good is her tiny amount given back to the state going to help anything??
In California, $20 will provide 160 "stick to the rib" meals for school children. Are we going to face what California is facing now come the school year this August or September are our students going to have to go without because a few politicians cannot get a grip on the budget? In the event this happens perhaps a "rainy day fund for food supplies should be on the public mind now. And so far the only promising candidate for Gov. is Lt. Gov. Cherry, I have only seen one Republican candidate that stands a chance to win. And I am keeping that under my hat until the proper time. First of all, all candidates have to continue to allow Stem Cell Research (if they have a problem with this then they should not be governor). The Second Topic is Medical Marijuana (if any candidate has a problem with this then they should not be Governor), And thus far, Lt. Governor Cherry does not have a problem with either topic! Now I know you will not believe what I am about too tell you; we need too start building our food banks now, especially for the elementary school children, the old way things would filter from New York to our area. It has taken me almost nine years to find the new source of where the new way of things being filtered to our area, which is now California, Southern California to be exact. And if we do not start building our food banks now. Well, if you do not believe me just wait and see. And the sad thing is no one will have monies to donate to these banks in the autumn months.
