Wayne's life began on Jan. 3, 1945, in Dowagiac, the son of Wayne E. and Roselene (Harris) Pompey.
Wayne, 64, of Niles, worked hard as a truck driver for 44 years, employed by Kenneth Smith Trucking in Niles.
Wayne loved to drive trucks, NASCAR racing and watching old Western movies.
His loving family includes: his children, Anthony (Pam) Pompey of Niles, Robert (Joe Holstine) Pompey of Voorhees, N.J., Mark (Brenda) Pompey of Niles, Paula (Jason) Bell of Niles and Barry (Nichole Kabara) Pompey of Niles; nine grandchildren, Dominique, AJ, Shayne, Danielle, Samantha, Ashley, Cody, Seth and Olivia; fiance, Pam Crocker of Niles; sisters, Renee (Larry) Starrett of Dowagiac and Debi (Ernest) Berkley of Dowagiac; brother, Kevin Pompey of Chicago; brother-in-law, Richard Ivens of Dowagiac; and a host of family members and friends.
Wayne passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Patti Ivens and brothers Richard and Brian Pompey.
Wayne's Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Hospice at Home.
