Elizabeth L. Neumann, 91, of East Bertrand Road, Niles, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at her home following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 8, at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Dowagiac with the Rev. Richard R. Swanson of the church officiating.
Committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 8, in Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
She was born on July 28, 1917, in Saint Clair, to Walter and Letitia (Rood) Smith. She graduated from Saint Clair High School and later moved to Niles in 1941.
She was a former longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Niles and was a current member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Dowagiac.
She was active at Winkler School in the PTA, when her children were students. She was a girls 4-H Lucky Clover Club leader. She enjoyed baking wedding cakes, wine making, making dolls, needlepoint, fishing in Canada and camping. As a seamstress, she made both everyday and wedding clothes and blankets for babies at Saint Paul's. She was a very loving woman.
On Dec. 5, 1937, in Saint Clair, she married Elton Neumann, who preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2005.
She is survived by her sons, Gary Neumann and Larry (Sharon) Neumann, both of Niles; granddaughters, Carol and Sarah Neumann and Mary Rayner; great-grandsons, Brandon and Timothy and a sister, Meredith Hurley of Croswell.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Shirley Neumann on March 7.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church Organ Fund.
