Cass eliminated by ‘Rocks

BRIDGMAN – A six-run seventh inning broke open what was a close contest in the Division 3 District Baseball Tournament semifinals at Bridgman High School on Saturday.
The Berrien Springs Shamrocks (21-12) scored six runs in the top of the seventh to seal a spot in the finals with a 10-1 win over Cassopolis.
The Shamrocks, who lost to the host Bees in the title game, grabbed a 1-0 lead after one inning of play and extended their lead to 2-0 with a run in the third.
The Rangers (9-17) came back to cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the fifth, but two runs in the sixth by Berrien Springs increased the lead to 4-1.
DaShaun Curtis took the loss for the Rangers, who also had Jackson Connor and Nic Davis take the hill.
The Rangers were limited to five hits by Jon Schembarger and Nick Phillips.
Tommy First had a double for Cassopolis.

Division 3 Softball
BRIDGMAN – The Lady Rangers bowed out of the state tournament in the Division 3 District semifinals on Saturday at Bridgman High School.
Cassopolis, which reached the Division 4 semifinals last year, fell to Berrien Springs 6-1.
The Lady Shamrocks were defeated in the finals by Buchanan, 6-2.
Cassopolis was held to just three hits by Kelsey and Lyndsey Shembarger.
Kasey Fosdick had a double for the Lady Rangers.
The Lady Shamrocks finished with nine hits and six runs off of Jessica Biek.
Raechel Zarhn had a triple for Berrien Springs to go along with three walks.
Allison Zandarski drove in a pair of runs and had two hits for the Lady Shamrocks.
Cassopolis finishes the 2009 campaign at 10-24.
