Rex W. Smith, 50, of Toledo Road, Elkhart, Ind., died at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Ind.
Funeral services are at 4 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Halbritter Funeral home, Niles, with Pastor Neil J. Hampton of Grace Church, Granger, Ind. officiating.
Friends may call beginning at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He was born on June 11, 1958, in Niles, to Loren Smith and Shirley Cooper Smith. He attended Niles Community Schools and moved to Elkhart, Ind. in 1998.
He was employed at Godfrey Marine, Elkhart, Ind.
In his youth, Rex worked at "Smitty's Place," his father's riding stables.
He has enjoyed auctions of all types for many years and for the past several years has enjoyed working with and repairing computers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Loren "Larry" Smith, who died on Jan. 24, 2008.
Surviving family includes a son, Nicholas Mangold of Niles; his mother, Shirley Hannum of Niles; a sister, Sherry Schram of Niles and a companion, Gail Merviine of Elkhart, Ind.
Arrangements were by Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
