Niles JV baseball team wraps up season

Niles junior varsity wrapped up their season Tuesday night with a sweep of host Benton Harbor.
Niles trailed early in game one but pulled ahead with a three run sixth inning, then held on to take the 5-4 win.
John Carey got the win for the Vikings. Carey allowed only three hits and struck out 12.
Top Niles hitters were Justine Hughes, who was 2-for-2 and Logan Harpenau, who was 2-for-3.
Carey helped his own cause with an inside-the-park home run.
In game two, Niles capitalized on struggling Tiger pitching, scoring five runs in the first inning.
The Vikings never looked back, scoring in every at bat and pulling out a 17-2 win.
Kyle Ballge earned the win for Niles, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out nine.
Josh Brawley led Niles at the plate going 2-for-3.
Also getting hits in the season finale were Nate Oates, Carey, Alex Grishaber, Cody Taggart, Andre Hitt, Ballge and Harpenau.
The junior Vikes end the season at 12-10.
