Get creative at the Niles District Library this summer
The summer reading theme this year is "Get Creative @ Your Library" beginning June 1 and ends on July 25.
Story Times are at 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Coloring pages will be given away at the end of each story time. Squigglers are at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays.
There will be three Brain Puzzles each week plus craft bags for the older children. During the summer the children will be challenged with seven "Get Creative" contests. 11 crafty classes will encourage the youngsters to be more creative.
As always, kids, teens and adults will use our special calendars to record the minutes they read. The children will be rewarded for every hour they read with prizes and raffle tickets. Teens will earn food coupons and raffle tickets while adults will receive books and raffle tickets. Check-in weeks for the kids will be June 15-20; June 29-July 3; and July 20-25. Teens and adults may check-in their calendars June 22-27; July 6-11; and July 20-25.
A Scholastic Book Fair will be held June 15-20.
The Grand Finale will feature the Magic Man, Stevyn Compoe, on Wednesday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m. All grand prizes will be awarded at that time.
Calendars for children, teens and adults will be available beginning today, May 22. To use your calendar, follow the following easy steps: First, record how many minutes you read in the calendar squares. Second, bring your calendar to the library during the special check-in weeks for reading prizes. Special drawings will be held at the end of each check-in week so you have the chance to win more fun prizes. Non-readers are welcome. Kids earn two priz es for every hour read up to 10 hours. After that, raffle tickets are given. Teens get food coupons for every two hours they read, up to 12 hours and then raffle tickets are awarded.
