Mabel Knowlton, 89, of Beebe Road, Niles, died at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Del Fehsenfeld of Fulkerson Park Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the funeral home.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1920, in Bremen, Ind., to Roland Horner and Lenora Marie Shermak Horner.
She moved to Niles in 1929 and graduated from Niles High School in 1938.
She enjoyed raising gladiolas. She also fought against several physical limitations throughout her life.
On Nov. 18, 1941, in Niles, she married Walter Lee "Bill" Knowlton, who survives.
Additional surviving family include two brothers, Richard Horner of Edwardsburg and Donald Horner of Niles and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Joanne "Patty Jo" Knowlton, who died Dec.. 26, 1943; sisters, June Horner and Elaine Rose Horner, who died in 1934 and two brothers, Harry Horner and Earl Horner.
Arrangements were by Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
