Come hear the tale of ‘Belle Gunness’

The Galien Woods Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. at 108 S. Grant St. in Galien, Thursday, April 30. President Juanita Swank will conduct the meeting and reports will be made by Vice President, Elmer Doyle concerning the 1879 jail restoration.
The program topic will feature a report on the story of "Belle Gunness" (born as Brynhild Paulsdatter Storseth on Nov. 11, 1859 in Selbu, Norway) who eventually moved to LaPorte, Ind. and is known as one of America's most prolific known female serial killers. All interested persons are welcome to attend the meeting.
Tickets for the upcoming ham and chicken dinner and bake sale to be held on Saturday night, May 16, at the Galien American Legion are available from Historical Society members, at the door, or by calling 269-545-0407, 269-545-2265 or 269-545-8896. Carry outs will be available. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be $8 for adults, $5 for children 5-12. The proceeds will be used towards the cost of a new roof for their building.
