Dowagiac Board of Education Monday night extended Superintendent Peg Stowers' contract based on her evaluation.
Her contract will expire in July 2011, school board President Randy Cuthbert said Tuesday.
"We scored her in different areas," including relations with the board, public relations, relations with fellow employees, personal characteristics and finance, Cuthbert said.
"On a scale of one to five, five being the highest, she averaged above four in all of the areas" for an overall 4.3, he said, adding that her salary will be determined later.
Stowers, 55, who became Patrick Hamilton Middle School principal in October 1985, was the first female superintendent of schools in Dowagiac history in 2006 after Larry Crandall retired.
She led Patrick Hamilton for 19 years before her promotion to assistant superintendent in January 2004 after the departure of the late Todd Bingaman to became Tecumseh superintendent.
