Marian wins softball title

Mishawaka Marian unseated Andrean as champion of the Chieftain Invitational Softball Tournament on Saturday.
Marian edged Andrean 1-0 in the championship game.
Mishawaka also defeated Goodrich 16-0 and host Dowagiac 14-4 to claim its first Chieftain title.
The Chieftains went 1-2 on the day.
Dowagiac defeated South Bend Washington 13-2 in its opening round contest, but fell to Niles in the consolation game, 8-0.
The Lady Vikings were 2-1 on the day having defeated Berrien Springs 4-0 in the first round, losing to Andrean 3-1 in the semifinals and defeating the Chieftains.
Marian scored a run in the first inning and then made it stand up against Adrean.
Ariel Sheets tossed a two-hitter with five strike outs in the championship game.
Ashlee Bousquet had two hits and a double for Marian, while Kathleen Kavanaugh singled and drove in the winning run.
Meg Bridgman took the loss for Andrean.
Andrean reached the finals by edging Unity Christian 1-0 in 18 innings in a game that featured 51 strikeouts.
Andrean then defeated Niles in the semifinals.
