Jack E. Mills, 65, of Cobus Ridge Lane, Granger, Ind., died at 6:02 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, at his home.
The family will receive friends and relatives tonight, Monday, March 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10, at 11 a.m. at Buchanan Church of Christ with Ed Erskin of Northway Church of Christ officiating.
Committal rites will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan and will conclude with the Veteran's Flag Presentation and Taps.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1943, in Buchanan to Edward and Virginia (Clem) Mills.
He graduated from Buchanan High school and attended Southwestern Michigan College.
He was employed in finance for 40 years, mostly in Mishawaka, Ind. and he retired in 2007 from the Granger Branch of Lake City Bank.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era having served in the United States Army.
He enjoyed being outdoors in the yard and had completed their home construction.
He loved his family, he put them first and they knew it. He was their protector and hero and they felt safe knowing that he would make all things right.
He was a man of honor, trust and integrity to all that knew him.
On June 1, 1984, in South Bend, Ind., he married the former Patricia Nemeth, who survives.
Additional surviving family includes his children, Melissa Mills of Granger, Ind., Stephani Hahaj of Indianapolis, Ind. and Chad (Claudia) Mills of Niles; grandchildren, Emily and Jacob; a sister, Ginnie (Skip) Rowe of Rockford, Ill.; brother, Ed Mills of Buchanan; favorite sister-in-law, Kathy Konopinski; mother-in-law, Bernie Nemeth and grandma, Thelma Fred.
