Richard R. Waldo, 79, of Naples, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, in Naples, Fla.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. in the Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis. The Rev. Glenn Litchfield, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Cassopolis, officiating.
Interment was in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Sumnerville, where military honors were given by members of the Efton James American Legion Post No. 206 and the William E. Lozier VFW Post No. 10704, both of Cassopolis.
The family received friends on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born on April 3, 1929, in Cassopolis to the late Lucion and Lula (Rutherford) Waldo.
He married the former Lorna M. Cabana on Oct. 29, 1950, in Cassopolis. She died on Jan. 31, 2001.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Murray Waldo and Robert Waldo.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Vicki (Michael) Richardson of Naples, Fla. and Cathy (Joe) Darrigan of Decatur; one granddaughter, Whitney Richardson of Miami Beach, Fla.; a sister, Helen Stahl of Cassopolis and a brother, Phillip (Dorothy) Waldo of Jones.
He was a retired mechanic with the former Hayden Beardslee Ford dealership in Cassopolis.
He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Efton James American Legion Post No. 206, Cassopolis, a member of the Dowagiac Eagles Lodge, Dowagiac and was a member of the Golden Gate Loyal Order of the Moose in Florida.
