Marin “Popi” Quinones-Alvarez / 1943-2009

Marin "Popi" Quinones-Alvarez, 65, of Niles, went to be with the Lord at 5:15 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at home with his family at his side after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Legacy Family Funeral Services – Matthew R. Purchase Chapel, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.
Cremation has taken place.
Marin was born on Oct. 27, 1943 in Yabocoa, Puerto Rico to Jose and Lucia (Alamo) Quinones.
On April 26, 1971, he married Dorothy Graham in Benton Harbor.
Marin was retired from the Elkhart Foundry where he had been a core maker. He kept chickens and rabbits, loved gardening and his tractor. He loved Hispanic music, but especially adored his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife Dorothy, "Popi" is survived by three wonderful daughters, Marinda (Denny) Schultz of Niles, Roseann (Aaron Dennison) Haas of Cassopolis, and Jessica (Michael) Downing of South Bend, Ind.; two sisters. Juana Quinones of Puerto Rico and Luz Carrasquillo of New Jersey; one brother, Manuel Quinones of New Jersey; as well as his loving grandchildren, Jesse, Brendon and Skyler Haas, Braylon and Tena Schultz, Devon Stantz and soon to enter this world, Myka Downing who "Popi" named before he passed from this life.
