Chieftains fall to Comstock

COMSTOCK – The offensive struggles of the Dowagiac boys' varsity basketball team continued Thursday night against host Comstock.
The Chieftains were outscored by the Colts 20-14 in the first half and 16-12 in the final two quarters as Comstock pulled away to a 46-36 Wolverine Conference victory.
Dowagiac trailed 10-8 after one period of play and 20-14 at the intermission.
In the second half, Comstock held a 15-11 advantage in scoring in the third quarter to take a 10-point (35-25) lead into the final eight minutes of play.
Both teams scored 11 points in the final quarter.
Comstock's Kameron Kampen scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Colts. Eric Neiderhoed added eight points.
Dowagiac was led offensively by Jalen Nickens and Romero Reed, both of whom scored seven points. Damone Huff and Brandon Douglas both finished with four points.
The Chieftain freshmen team posted a 48-46 victory over the Colts.
Dowagiac, which lost by 17 points to Comstock in the first meeting back in December, led 23-11 at halftime.
Chris Gantt led the Chieftains (4-3) with 12 points. Jacob Williams and Craig Zebell both finished with 10 points.
Dowagiac lost in the junior varsity contest 40-33.
Andrew Kurdlemeyer and Chris Craft both had nine points, while Alex Miller scored seven points.
Dowagiac will return to action on Tuesday when it travels to Plainwell for another Wolverine Conference tripleheader. The freshmen game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. with the JV and varsity contests set to start at 5:45 and 7:15 respectively.
