Thomas J. McCauslin, 77, of Hess Road, Edwardsburg, formerly of Cassopolis, died on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at 6:20 p.m. in the Lakeland Medical Center, Niles, surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. in the St. Ann Catholic Church, Cassopolis, where he was a member. Officiating was Father Thomas King, pastor of St. Mark Catholic Church, Niles.
Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Cassopolis, where military honors was given by members of the Efton James American Legion Post No. 206 and William E. Lozier VFW Post No. 10704, both of Cassopolis.
The family received friends on Friday, Jan. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis, a prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m.
He was born on March 9, 1931, in Cassopolis, to the late Archie B. and Margaret R. (Owen) McCauslin and was a lifetime area resident.
He married the former Patricia McGann on Dec. 10, 1950, in Cassopolis, who survives.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; four sons, Michael (Lucy) McCauslin and Mark McCauslin, all of Niles, Patrick (Rhonda) McCauslin of Edwardsburg and Kevin (Sharon) McCauslin of Plainwell; five grandchildren, Thomas McCauslin, John McCauslin, Jenifer McCauslin, Megan McCauslin and Jason McCauslin and a brother, Robert A. (Doris) McCauslin of Cheboygan.
He was a retired vice president of administration for the Edward Lowe Foundation, Cassopolis.
He was also a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, former Cassopolis Public Schools board member for eight years, had served as a board member for Lakeland Healthcare board directors, the Cassopolis Family Clinic, the Cass County Medical Care Facility, the Cass County Transportation Board. He was also a member of the Efton James American Legion Post No. 206, Cassopolis, member of the Niles Eagles Lodge No. 2094, the Dowagiac Elks Lodge No. 889 and was a former volunteer with the Cassopolis Fire Department.
He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, wood working and collecting antiques. His main love was spending time with his family.
Memorials may be made to the Cass County Medical Care Facility, or the Cass County Council on Aging.
