MONTROSE – The Niles wrestling team finished third at the Montrose Invitational on Tuesday.
Host Montrose won its own tournament, while Flint Carmen Ainsworth took second.
The Vikings went 3-1 in the day, losing only to the host team 39-34.
Niles defeated Ogema Heights 46-30, Burton Bendle 44-21 and Highland Park 55-15.
Montrose defeated Carmen Ainsworth in the championship match 51-24.
Going undefeated (4-0) on the day for the Vikings were Dakota Wright (103), Gage Pearison (112) and Greg McNair (171).
"Greg had an outstanding day," Niles coach Todd Hesson said. "He had some tough matches and he wrestled well."
Going 3-1 on the day were Nate Allison (130), McCade Reese (152), Eric Long (189-215) and Kyle Garlanger (189-215).
"Our heavyweight Mike Gentry wrestled well, he lost a tough one to Montrose on a one-point stall call at the buzzer," Hesson said. "The kids wrestled better, still working on a few things, but we are getting there."
Niles will continue its tough stretch of tournaments on Saturday as it travels to Battle Creek for the Big 16 Conference team duals at the Kellogg Arena.
