Evan L. "Shorty" Jones, 68, of Michigan Center, died at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008.
Services will be held at the Nichols-Arthur Funeral Home, 820 Fifth St. in Michigan Center on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be today, Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 p.m.
Interment Services will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel Cemetery in Niles, on Friday at 1 p.m.
Shorty was preceded in death by his father, Evan H. Jones and son-in-law Scott Thornton.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda S.; beloved daughter, Cari Lynn Thornton; two cherished grandchildren. Emily Sue and Andrew Evan Thornton; his mother, Bobbette Jones of Niles, a brother, Robert (Carol) Jones of Niles and many nieces and one nephew.
He was a retired physical-education and history teacher from Jackson High School, serving many years as the wrestling coach, was the MHSAA Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1997, member of the MHSAA Wrestling Hall of Fame, and was wrestling coach at Michigan Center for three years.
He was also a former member of the Jackson Moose Lodge, earned his BA and Masters Degree from Central Michigan University, loved to fish and spent many memorable hunting trips with his good friend, Terry Gillette. Contributions in his memory are directed to the Youth Haven Ranch, Rives Junction, Michigan or the Central Michigan University Wrestling Program.
