Suspect nabbed in Nappanee

NILES – On Dec. 16, 2008, Sgt. Randy Miller of the Berrien County Niles Township Patrol responded to a belated report of a larceny that occurred at the Baughman Housing Group, 1446 S. 11th Street.
The owner explained that unknown cut a lock to the entrance gate on the west side of the business property and stole an eight-foot utility trailer, several trailer axles and tires used for moving modular homes.
With the assistance of the victim, area businesses that specialize with recycling these items was contacted and a match of the victim's stolen property was made at Mobile Tire and Axle in Nappanee, Ind.
The Nappanee City Police Department, along with the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department responded and apprehended one of the two suspects attempting to recycle the stolen property.
One suspect fled from the scene on foot and the second suspect was caught at the scene.
The second suspect was identified as an Indiana resident and was lodged by the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department for possession of stolen property.
This case remains under investigation by the Berrien County Detective Bureau.
