Velma ‘Ruth’ Rule / March 10, 1927-Dec. 9, 2008

Ruth's life began on March 10, 1927, in Shawnee, Okla., the daughter of Albert and Savannah (Ratliff) Scott.
She worked as a clerk at the Wash Shed in Dowagiac for many years.
Ruth was a member of Dowagiac Missionary Baptist Church.
Her greatest joy was her family, which includes: her children, Velma J. (Michael) Nichols of Dowagiac, Duane L. (Connie) Rule of Niles and Wallace D. (Jan) Rule of Orange City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maude Sheneman of Mishawaka, Ind., and Betty Fobes of Dowagiac; a half brother, Leonard Scott of Canyonville, Ore.; and stepbrother, John Brenner of Benton Harbor.
Ruth, 81, of Dowagiac, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at her daughter's home.
She is preceded in death by: her parents; her sisters, Manila Noecker and sister Ibura "Pete" Clark; and brothers Albert "Scotty" Scott Jr. and Wesley Scott.
Her family will gather with friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. led by Pastor Orliss Terry of Dowagiac Missionary Baptist Church.
She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
