NILES – With an already early snowfall, snowmobiler's are reminded that the season is under way, but only if the trails have been officially marked and if there is a minimum of 4 inches of snow on the ground.
The Niles Four Flags Snowmobile Club is facing major delays in completing their Trail System this season. In many areas farm crops are still standing, and the current ground conditions are poor to work in.
Because of this, snowmobilers must use caution and only ride areas where the trail marker signs are up. If they reach an unmarked area, do not proceed beyond that point.
This cautionary advisory is especially important at this time of the year, as the hunting season is still in progress, which is all the more reason that snowmobiler's must not be in the fields, competing with the hunters.
The other danger that exists when snowmobiler's use the trails before their official completion/opening is that it can disrupt the seasonal work that is being done by the landowners to their property.
When these disruptions occur, landowners may decide to no longer lease their property for the trail system.
