Lady Chargers lose pair in Illinois tournament

MATTOON, Ill. – The Ancilla College women's basketball team fell short in both opportunities of the Lake Land Community College Classic over the weekend. Ancilla lost to host Lake Land 67-45, then dropped a neutral court game to Danville Area Community College 86-67.
Ancilla (1-2) scored just 19 points in the first half against Lake Land, en route to their first loss of the season. Lauren Shepherd led the Lady Chargers with 18 points and four steals, while Tiffany Leyva pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Ancilla. Anyae Coffer finished with four of Ancilla's nine assists to lead the team in that category.
The Lady Chargers trailed by just seven at the half against Danville, but were unable to shut down the potent Jaguar attack, giving up 43 points in both halves. Coffer (18 points), Shepherd (17 points) and Bianca Woods (15 points) all finished in double digits for Ancilla. Coffer again led the Lady Chargers with 8 of their 13 total assists while leading the team with three steals, as well. Rebounding leaders consisted of Woods (6), Leyva (5), and Niles' Brittney Wolverton (5).
Ancilla's next game is tonight at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Ill.
Game time is 6 p.m. Their home opener is Saturday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. against Sinclair Community College (OH). Ancilla plays their home games in the Charger Arena at the LifePlex of Plymouth, Ind.
