CASSOPOLIS – For the first time in history at the National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event, a team from Michigan made it to the final four.
Cassopolis FFA made history earlier this month competing with 42 other teams at the 81st National FFA Convention.
"We had been, for years and years, (we) worked to get to the final four," said Carrie George, FFA advisor for 10 years. "We broke the system this year."
The Cassopolis team includes Tiffany Rogers, daughter of Dave and Cheryl; Margaret Hein, daughter of Ron and Leona; Kyle Miller, son of Joyce and Herb; Kayla Green, daughter of Debbie and Jeff; RJ Lee, son of Dallas and Zelda Cloud; and Ryan Stover, son of Rhonda and Jim.
Rogers, Hein and Miller are students at Niles High School. Green and Lee are students at Southwestern Michigan College. Stover attends both SMC and Cassopolis' Ross Beatty High School.
The Cassopolis team tied with the FFA team out of Goodyear, Ariz., in the final round of competition. Scores from all three rounds of competition were totaled to determine the team to take first place – with Cassopolis 18 points behind.
"It was the most exciting thing in my life," said Miller, a junior who's been involved with FFA since seventh grade.
"When we made it to the final four," said George. "Everybody was ecstatic."
Tiffany Rogers, a senior at Niles, was named best chairperson of the event.
