OTSEGO – Heading into the Wolverine Conference Volleyball Tournament the Plainwell Lady Trojans needed to knock off regular season leader Gull Lake to earn a share of the championship.
And that is exactly what Plainwell did as the Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Blue Devils 25-13, 25-16 and 25-20 in the title match.
As a result, Plainwell and Gull Lake will share the league championship, while Otsego finished third in the tournament and third in the final league standings.
Dowagiac went 1-3 on the day to finish in the tie for seventh place with Allegan.
The Chieftains won their first match of the day over South Haven to play their way into the championship bracket.
Dowagiac defeated the Lady Rams 25-22, 22-25 and 15-9.
The Chieftains were then defeated by No. 2 seeded Plainwell 25-11, 25-14 and 25-14.
In the consolation semifinals, Dowagiac was beaten by Three Rivers 25-19 and 25-16.
The Chieftains then fell to Allegan in the seventh place match, 25-23 and 26-24.
No individual statistics were provided.
