To the editor:
Earlier this year a young woman, whose husband is serving in the armed forces, wrote a letter to the editor pointing out the lack of any visible support for the troops around our community. (Beth Staley, April 7).
I was motivated by that letter and the deployment of the 1st Squadron-126 Cavalry Regiment of the Dowagiac Armory to put up a sign of support for the troops in the yard of our business across from Chris Taylor-Alumni Field on Paul Street.
There are only a handful of "Support Our Troops" signs in the entire community.
Displaying that sign was just a small gesture of thanks and respect for the men and women serving this country and the sacrifices of their families.
Late Friday night, Oct. 24, or early Saturday morning someone destroyed the sign.
I cannot imagine the thinking or lack of thought of the person who committed this vandalism.
I will replace the sign.
Please SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.
