Dowagiac faces Eddies, Cass gets bye in volleyball districts

Dowagiac drew the host Edwardsburg Eddies in the Class B District Volleyball Tournament, which begins Nov. 4.
The Chieftains and Eddies will play the second match of the night at Edwardsburg High School.
Lakeshore and Buchanan will kick off the tournament at 5 p.m. The Eddies and Chieftains will follow at 6:30.
The winners advance to take on St. Joseph and Berrien Springs, both of which received first round byes.
The second round will be held on Thursday, Nov. 6.
The winner of the Lakeshore-Buchanan match will take on the Lady Bears at 5 p.m
The winner of the Dowagiac-Edwardsburg match will meet the Lady Shamrocks at 6:30 p.m.
The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m.
Class C at Centreville
Cassopolis drew a first round bye in the upcoming Class C District Volleyball Tournament.
Marcellus and Constantine will kick off the tournament at Centreville High School with a 6 p.m. match on Monday, Nov. 3.
The host Lady Bulldogs will face White Pigeon in the second game on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Rangers will take on the winner of the Marcellus-Constantine match at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Mendon will face the Centreville-White Pigeon winner at 7:30.
The championship match is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
Football Playoffs
Cassopolis, Dowagiac and Buchanan will continue their seasons this weekend as the opening round of the Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs begin.
All three teams will hit the road with Cassopolis heading to Decatur, the Chieftains heading to Three Rivers and Buchanan heading to Hopkins.
The Chieftains and Wildcats will kick things off at 7 p.m.
While Cassopolis, Dowagiac, Three Rivers, and Decatur are no strangers to each other in the post season. This will be the first meeting between the Bucks and Vikings.
The Rangers and the Raiders squared off in 2006 as well with Decatur taking an 18-13 victory.
Dowagiac and Three Rivers last met in the playoffs in 2006 with the Chieftains taking a 27-7 victory over the Wildcats.
The Chieftains will be making their fourth straight appearance in the playoffs, while the Rangers are in their third straight post season and the Bucks' their fourth appearance in the past five years.
