Lady Bucks finish second at Division 3 regional

For the seventh time in the last 15 years, the Buchanan girls' cross country team will be headed to the state finals.
The Lady Bucks finished second on Saturday at Portage Middle School in the Division 3 regional to advance to the finals on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
Schoolcraft won the girls' title with a team score of 45. Buchanan was second with 140 and Delton Kellogg third with 152.
The Lady Bucks' Torrie Eger finished second with a time of 19:51.7, while Elizabeth Hein placed 10th with a time of 20:32.2. Alyssa Kruchkow was 40th (22:56.9), Ashlyn Pastryk 43rd (23:01.1), Ashley Best 45th (23:03.2), Courtney Adolph 48th (23:25.8) and Chelsea Adolph 73rd (24:54.1).
The Bucks did not have enough runners to post a team score in the boys' race.
Richard Reith finished 34th with a time of 18:46.9, John Kuntz 39th with a clocking of 19:06.4 and Jacob Ferris 88th with a time of 21:24.4.
Brandywine, likewise, also did not have enough runners to post scores in either race.
Ashley Harrell turned in the best performance for the Bobcats with a 16th place finish and a time of 20:59.5.
Kelci Lockwood finished 79th (24:57.3) and Nicole Newman 89th (25:49.5).
Ryan Probst finished 53rd in the boys' race with a clocking of 19:35.1. Aaron Sieting finished 83rd with a time of 21:01.9.
Division 2
Niles advanced two runners to the state finals, one in each race.
The Vikings finished ninth in the girls' race and 10th in the boys' race.
Mark Calhoun moved on to the finals after finishing sixth with at time of 16:31. Madie Rodts was 12th with a time of 20:08.3 to qualify for the finals.
Edwardsburg's Josh Clark was also a state qualifier with a 15th place effort and a time of 17:01.
For the Vikings, Sam VandenHeede was 37th (18:02.2), Anthony Horvath 38th (18:02.3), Caleb Bliss 79th (19:41.1) and Barry Weddle 92nd (22:53.7).
Edwardsburg, which finished 13th, also had Pat Reck finish 63rd (18:57.2), Zak Eggelton 68th (19:08.2), Matt Derucki 78th (19:40.4), A.J. Chrapliwy 86th (20:16.3), Victor Schultz 88th (20:45.6) and Dan Crowell 91st (22:21.1).
Dowagiac, a 14th place finisher, was led by Kasey Proshwitz's 64th place finish and a time of 18:58.8. Chris Gantt was 70th (19:15.4), Eric Morton 89th (20:47), Jason Turner 90th (21:44.9), Brandon Wilson 93rd (23:13.3) and Jon Richcreek 95th (23:47.7).
For the Lady Vikings, Liz VandenHeede placed 39th (21:35.4), Anne Tyler 42nd (21:44.8), Maureen Craig 62nd (22:24.6), Ava McKeel 68th (22:47.7), Alex Haimbaugh 70th (22:50.4) and Shannon McKeel 84th (24:10.1).
The Lady Eddies were 13th.
Katelyn Buzalski led the way with a 55th place finish and a time of 22:07.7. Lindsay Ward finished 73rd (23:05.4), Lisa Billings 79th (23:22.2), Kim Billings 81st (23:51.8), Jessica Buzalski 82nd (24:03.4), Kara Hodges 83rd (24:05.5) and Justine Lewis 86th (26:01.8).
Dowagiac did not field a full girls team.
Leana Allen had the best finish as she was 90th with a time of 24:40.4. Ami Sarao was 91st (25:04.6), Macy Howard 95th (29:39.4) and Samantha Mathews 96th (29:57).
"Moving up to Division II was tough for us," Dowagiac coach Ken Jordan said. "Overall, we made some baby steps this year, but have a long way to go."
