Niles rolls past Edwardsburg in four games

NILES – Host Niles was too much for the Edwardsburg varsity volleyball team on Monday night.
The Lady Vikings defeated the Lady Eddies in 3-1 in a non-conference match.
Niles won 25-17, 25-9, 21-25 and 25-16.
"We came out strong and intense in games one and two," Niles coach Linda Martin said. "Edwardsburg really fought in game three. (Elise) Mackling was a force for them and we couldn't contain her the way we would have liked."
Nellie Coquillard, Ashley Allison, Demi Schrader and Melissa Cooper all figured prominently in the victory for the Lady Vikings.
Allison had six kills and 11 digs. Coquillard had 21 digs, while Schrader had 13 digs and 19 assists.
Cooper finished the match with five kills, nine digs, six assists and four aces.
"Nellie Coquillard, Ashley Allison, Demi Schrader and Melissa Cooper are amazing defenders," Martin said. "They play without fear and stretch for every ball."
Niles got 12 kills from Katie Bourbonnais and six kills from Patty Anton. Bourbonnais also had 12 digs with Anton finishing with four aces.
Brittney Buti led the Lady Vikings with six aces.
"I believe we are one of the best teams in Berrien County, and we still continue to improve on a daily basis," Martin said. "It's a great time to be part of this program."
Mackling had 13 kills and five digs for the Lady Eddies, who also got five kills, one block, two aces and eight digs form Emily Kozinski.
Erin Burks chipped in with a kill and five blocks, while Ellen Miller had three kills and two blocks. Maddi Mueller finished with a team-high 21 digs.
Amelia Breslin had 17 assists, one ace and eight digs on the night.
Jenn Mackling finished with 12 assists, five digs and a pair of aces.
JV Volleyball
Niles defeated visiting Edwardsburg 18-25, 25-21 and 15-7.
Stephanie Vernier had 12 assists, Michelle Briand 10 kills and three aces, along with three blocks from Rachel Zeider and eight digs from Paxton Schaller.
Niles will compete in the SMAC tournament on Saturday in Sturgis.
