CASSOPOLIS – The Cass County Council on Aging present another Breast Cancer Awareness Day Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m.
"The American Cancer Society says that only about 50 percent of women over 40 report having a mammogram in the past year," said Debbey Proven, Director of Volunteer services at the COA. "That's just not enough. Every woman over 40 should get screened."
The COA will be giving away two certificates for complimentary mammograms at the event. One is from Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital, the other is compliments of Lakeland Healthcare and Radiology Associates of Berrien County.
This year's event will be larger and will feature three speakers, Tricia Sloma from WNDU-TV, Dr. Ebonee Davis from South Bend Internal Medicine, and Bunny LaDuke, from Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Sloma has been active in Breast Cancer awareness efforts in the Michiana area for many years.
Davis is a primary care physician, often being the first line of cancer prevention for her patients.
LaDuke is the Executive Director of the Southwest Michigan Affiliate of Komen for the Cure.
In addition to the speakers, door prizes will be awarded every 15 minutes and refreshments will be provided, courtesy of Alick's Home Medical.
Other information and services from local companies will also be featured.
The event is open to the public and free of charge.
