The Cass County CROP Hunger Walk for 2008 is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 5, with registration beginning at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Dowagiac.
The walk will begin at 2 p.m. after a brief welcome and send-off.
Last year $540,272 went to 374 Michigan soup kitchens, food pantries and other hunger ministries, serving thousands of children, adults and families in desperate need of food.
Twenty-five percent of the money raised in the Cass area CROP Hunger Walk will be distributed to local hunger-alleviating agencies in Cass County.
This year's walk recipients are: Helping Hands, Feed My Sheep, Edwardsburg Food Bank and Salvation Army – CURE. Last year the Cass Area CROP Hunger Walk raised $13,260 and qualified to receive a $5,000 grant for a total distribution of $18,260. This year they set a goal of 200 walkers raising $16,000.
Meeting that goal will qualify for a grant of $2,000 to add to distribution.
If you wish to donate, send a check to: Church World Service / CROP Walk, and mail it to PO Box 393, Dowagiac, MI, 49047.
