NILES – The Niles freshmen football team rolled to an impressive 41-0 victory at home against Marshall on Thursday.
Quarterback Logan Harpenau ran for two touchdowns and completed a 26-yard pass to Austin Parks for another score.
Harpenau added a 2-point conversion pass to Zack Fillwock. Niles also received touchdown runs from Brandon Partee, Les Holt and Ronnie Jones.
Parks was good on three out of four extra point kicks.
Lots of Vikings were cited for their fine play: Joseph Donoho and Quientin Irby, for two quarterback sacks apiece; Darren Sallee, on a fumble recovery; and Brandon Partee with an interception.
Partee also had a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown called back due to a penalty.
"Brandon Partee was outstanding today. He was all over the field on defense and ran the ball real well," Niles coach Todd Pawielski said. "Our offensive line did a solid job from start to finish, opening up huge holes for our backs. Eric Croom, Chris Nelson, Zack Brawley, Zack Fillwock, Alex Grishaber, Les Holt and others are doing a whale of a job in the trenches. We are starting to understand this is where football games are won or lost."
The freshmen move to 4-0 on the season and will host rival St. Joseph next Thursday.
Game time is 4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity immediately after.
No results for the junior varsity contest were available at press time.
