Cocaine arrest made

Dowagiac Police Chief Tom Atkinson reports his department arrested a driver for possession of cocaine and operating while intoxicated early Sunday morning, Sept. 14.
At approximately 12:25 a.m., city police located a vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks on E. Prairie Ronde near E. Railroad Street.
An officer made contact with the female driver who was attempting to move the vehicle off the tracks, but was unable to do so.
The driver advised police she made a wrong turn onto the tracks while attempting to turn onto E. Railroad Street.
While speaking with the driver, the officer noted signs of intoxication and investigated for a possible operating while intoxicated violation.
The officer determined that the driver was intoxicated and placed her under arrest for operating while intoxicated.
After arresting the driver, the officer conducted a search of her person and located a small quantity of cocaine in her pocket.
Police arrested a 46-year-old Dowagiac woman for operating while intoxicated and possession of cocaine.
The woman was lodged at Cass County Jail on these charges. Police withheld the name of the suspect pending her arraignment in Cass County Fourth District Court.
All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor's Office.
