Sturgis hands Edwardsburg loss in volleyball

NILES – The Edwardsburg varsity volleyball team was defeated in three games by Sturgis on Tuesday night.
The Lady Trojans posted a 25-20, 25-16 and 25-21 win over the Lady Eddies in non-conference action.
Elise Mackling had 11 kills and 11 digs for Edwardsburg, which is now 2-4 on the year.
Christina Hans had 15 digs, three kills and two aces, while Emily Getz had 15 digs and four aces.

Visiting White Pigeon defeated Cassopolis in varsity volleyball Tuesday night.
The Lady Chiefs defeated the Lady Rangers in three games, 25-8, 25-20 and 25-23.
Kristen Fitzsimons led Cassopolis with five kills, while Kasey Fosdick had three kills, Athena Hatcher, Jessica Biek, Keisha Martinez and Reva Ivens all were credited with one kill.
Ivens paced the Lady Rangers with 35 passes, while Stephanie Vlasicak, the libero, finished with 15. Biek and Brooke Lindley had 12 and 11 passes respectively.
Olivia Stewart led the team with six assists, while Biek had a pair. Fitzsimons and Biek led the Lady Rangers in aces.
Cassopolis is now 1-12 overall.
The Lady Rangers return to the court on Sept. 6 at the Schoolcraft Invitational.
