CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that at 4:43 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of M-60 and M-40 in Jones for a personal injury traffic crash.
Upon arriving on scene and investigating the traffic crash, deputies learned that a 1988 Oldsmobile being driven by Arthur Keister, 60, and the front-seat passenger, his wife Pamela Keister, 57, of Albion, Ind., were northbound on M-40.
Witnesses advised that Mr. Keister came to a complete stop at the intersection.
However, after stopping he attempted to cross the intersection and pulled out in front of a large grain truck that was westbound on M-60.
This vehicle was being driven by Franklin Seybert, 48, of Constantine.
Seybert was unable to stop and ran into the passenger side of the Keister vehicle.
Both vehicles continued westbound on M-60 and hit another semi-truck stopped at the intersection (southbound) on M-40.
This vehicle was driven by Kenneth Loughe, 45, of Elkhart, Ind.
Both Seybert and Loughe were not injured.
However, both Arthur Keister and Pamela Keister were pronounced dead at the scene.
Cass County sheriff's deputies were assisted at the scene by the Newberg Township fire and ambulance departments, Three Rivers Ambulance Service and Life Care.
Alcohol was not a factor.
Seat belts were worn by all involved.
