NILES – The Van Dyke Revue has plenty of reasons to celebrate this weekend.
And they plan to do so.
The band will mark it's 10th anniversary of performing their independent folk-rock music together – and they will release their self-titled debut album – Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Riverfront cafe, 219 N. Front St., Niles.
The band got its start in 1998, by father and son John and David Van Dyke.
"It's really wonderful," to be debuting the album in Niles, David said Friday. "This is our home."
The band will perform an acoustic set at 7 p.m. Saturday, following it up with the "regular rock and roll that people like so much."
For the first 20 buyers, Van Dyke said the band is also offering a 2 for 1 deal on the self-titled CD. Those customers will also receive a bootleg album containing 13 additional tracks.
"The project's singles (released online) have already garnered chart position on Gain Central radio," stated a press release by the band. "'Take us home' reached No. 47 on Gain Central on May 29, 2008 and 'Lakehouse reprise' (an instrumental track) climbed all the way to No. 1 on May 30 and May 31, 2008."
Van Dyke said the band chose the Riverfront Cafe as the site for their release party because it is an "anchor business" and the site of where they used to perform once a month. He hopes that will happen again, now that the restaurant is reopened. For more information on the band, visit www.vandykerevue.org.
