Catherine L. "Kitty" Ashcraft, 64, of Sheridan Drive, Garver Lake, Edwardsburg, in Ontwa Township, died at about 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at her home, after an illness.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg, where friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. Michael Finney of Dowagiac led the remembrance service and was accompanied by Native American drummers.
Cremation followed the services.
She was born on Dec. 9, 1943, in Kissimee, Fla., to Hollis Emery Drake II and Hilda Estelle Bass-Lanier.
She lived in the Michiana area most of her life.
She had done cabinet work for the RV industry,, but was mainly a homemaker.
On Dec. 21, 1978, in Elkhart, Ind., as Catherine "Kitty" Drake-Terrell, she married Donald E. Ashcraft, who died Sept. 11, 1991.
Surviving family includes a son, Donald E. Ashcraft, Jr. of Kalamazoo; three daughters, Jessica Terrell of St. Cloud, Fla., Candy Mitchell of Elkhart, Ind. and Julia James of Edwardsburg; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and four brothers, Joseph Drake, Francis Drake,, Hollis Drake, III and Lester J. Bass.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmie Drue Terrell and two sister, Carol Ann Greenfield.
Arrangements were by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
