To the editor:
I read with interest and pride the letter from Marie and Bill Weimer about volunteers in our community. I would add the Berrien County Chapter of the American Red Cross to the list of area people who helped at the Majerek's Hallmark fire. Red Cross volunteers who live in the Niles area were instrumental, along with the Salvation Army and several spontaneous volunteers, in being certain that firefighters, police officers, SMCAS personnel, and volunteers received water and food in a timely and safe manner.
We wish to bring Red Cross participation to your attention because providing respite to fire fighting personnel is one of the things that we do. Recently we served the fire fighters at the Bell School fire and the arson fire near Mayor Dailey's home in New Buffalo Township in May.
