The Masons of Michigan will once again be hosting a Student Assistance Training Program on the campus of Southwestern Michigan College in August.
This program seeks to provide educators with the skills necessary to intervene and create behavioral change in students' lives.
The objective is early and effective intervention with students demonstrating patterns of behavior that could threaten their success at school and could be indicators of problems associated with alcohol, drugs, violence, depression and suicide.
This program is developed and presented by Newman/Stecher International, an organization dedicated to providing training and technical assistance to school districts and state departments of education, as well as private business and industry.
A "booster" program for those who completed the course in 2007 will take place on Aug. 18 with the full course being presented Aug. 19 through Aug. 21.
The course is accredited and continuing education units are available to participants.
All training materials, workbooks, meals and snacks are provided without charge by the hosts.
Please contact Robert Conley, state coordinator for the Student Assistance Training Program for further information and to register to attend.
Educators may also register locally by calling Terry Newell at the Newell Insurance Agency in Decatur.
The Student Assistance Training Program is funded in Michigan by the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation, a 501c(3) non-profit charitable corporation.
