Man arrested at Family Fare

Dowagiac Police Chief Tom Atkinson reports his officers arrested a man on several charges stemming from an incident that occurred at the Family Fare store. Police were dispatched to Family Fare on M-51 South on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 2, at approximately 4:25 p.m. Police were advised that a male subject shoplifted from the store and assaulted two store employees when confronted. The suspect then fled the store on foot, running south. Officers spotted the suspect and were able to catch him as he attempted to hide near the front of the Pamida store on Pokagon Street. The suspect was taken into custody for the retail fraud and assault and battery.
While at the police department, the suspect, 29, became violent and began to throw furniture around.
