NILES – The Howard Township Board in a unanimous vote appointed Dale Lowe of 1326 Breezy Beach, Niles, to fill a vacant trustee seat Tuesday night.
Lowe's term will expire at the end of the year. The seat became vacant last month upon the sudden resignation of Trustee Shelby Farmer following the board's 4-3 vote not to restrict truck traffic on Barron Lake Road.
Lowe, a Republican, is a candidate for the 14th District Cass County Board seat currently held by Democrat Debbie Johnson of 2211 Yankee St., Niles. He held the seat in 2005-06. Both are seeking the two-year seat and will challenge each other on the Nov. 4 ballot.
Lowe is chairman of the Woodlands Behavioral Healthcare Network Board and serves on the Woodlands Recipient Rights Board. He is a member of the Kalamazoo Community Mental Health Substance Abuse Committee and is on the Woodlands Search Committee for a new chief executive officer. He is vice chairman of the Cass County Building Authority and serves on the Cass County Land Preservation Board.
Lowe will be sworn to office today.
