Buchanan woman arrested for drugs

BUICHANAN – On Thursday, July 10 at approximately 8:15 a..m., Deputy John Hopkins of the Berrien County Sheriff Department's Road Patrol effected a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Melinda Kay Fisher on Yore Ave. near East Empire Avenue in the Benton Township.
During this traffis stop investigation, Deputy Hopkins learned that the driver was currently operating this vehicle in violation of her Restricted Michigan's Operator's License.
Deputy Hopkins then placed Melinda Kay Fisher, 33, of 401 Woodland Drive, Buchanan, under arrest on the violation of her restricted operator's license and transported her to the Berrien County Jail.
On Thursday, while Melinda Fisher was being booked into the Berrien County Jail, the Berrien County Jail deputies observed some crack cocaine concealed on her person.
The deputies then seized approximately two ounces of crack cocaine off from Fisher's person. (This crack cocaine had a street value of approximately $2,000).
Melinda Fisher was then placed under arrest on additional charges of Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Deliver second Offense, Smuggling Contraband into a Correctional Facility, Maintaining a Drug Vehicle second Offense, and on a Probation Violation Detainer.
Melinda Fisher was currently on Felony Probation for a conviction of Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Deliver stemming from a narcotics search warrant execution by the Berrien County Sheriff Department's Narcotics Unit at her previous residence in the City of Buchanan on Dec. 21, 2007.
Fisher was lodged at the Berrien County Jail on the above mentioned charges pending her arraignment in the Berrien County Trial Courts.
