The golf outing season is upon us and we would like to encourage area players to get involved. There are a lot of golf outings scattered throughout the summer to help raise funds for a variety of worthy causes.
The nice thing about playing in a golf outing is that it is the perfect excuse to get out of work.
But, you also get a chance to help an organization raise money for its needs, which should make you feel good in the process.
There are several golf outings listed on the sports pages of the Cassopolis Vigilant, Dowagiac Daily News, Edwardsburg Argus and Niles Daily Star.
More will be coming as the summer progresses.

The 2008 Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing is scheduled for Monday at Orchard Hills Country Club. There is still room for six teams. The annual outing is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. and costs $25 for Orchard Hills members, $75 for non-members and $15 for the cookout. You can still sign up today by calling 683-3720.
The 15th annual Behnke Memorial Golf Tournament will be Saturday, July 19 at the Dowagiac Elks Golf Course. Cost is $200 per four-person team. This will be a scramble format and each team needs at least one woman per squad. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Registration is from 8-8:30 a.m. You may sign at the Elks Golf Course.
The 14th annual Cassopolis Athletic Boosters Club Big Hole Fundraiser will be Saturday, July 26 at Diamond Lake Golf Course in Cassopolis. Cost is $180 per team You can register for the outing by calling Jim Foster at (574) 298-5743 or by calling the Diamond Lake Golf Course at 445- 3143.
The Niles football program will once again be hosting a golf outing at Orchard Hills Country Club. This year's event will be on Aug. 2 and start at 2 p.m. Cost is $65 per golfer. The Fred "Bigfoot" Thompson Golf Outing will be held July 26 at the Dowagiac Elks Golf Course. The tournament will begin at 1 p.m. and is a two-person, two-club scramble. Cost is $50 per person. To sign up please contact Bob Carson at (269) 214-2137 or Michelle Warner at 782-6205.
The second annual golf outing sponsored by D.A.S.A.S. (Domestic and Sexual Abuse Services), will be held on Friday, Aug. 15 at Spruce Ridge Golf Course in Dowagiac. The outing is a flighted tournament with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Fees of $ 65 per golfer and $260 per team. For further information please contact Dowagiac's members of the D.A.S.A.S. The 20th Annual Lake Michigan College Golf Outing will be held Monday, Aug. 11, at Orchard Hills Country Club in Buchanan. Openings are available for the best-ball event. The entry fee for a foursome is $600 or $150 for individual entries and a portion of the entry fee is tax deductible.
