TUPELO, Miss. – Supporters of American Family Association (AFA) sent nearly 750,000 e-mails to members of Congress by July 1 asking them to address the energy crisis.
"The failure of Congress to develop a short term/long term policy has hurt nearly every family in America. It is past time for Congress to develop a program which allows the exploration of America's energy sources without materially affecting our environment.
"Congress should put our families first and use common sense in dealing with this issue," said Donald E. Wildmon, AFA chairman. "We agree with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich that we can take three immediate steps toward becoming energy self-sufficient," Wildmon stated. The three steps Gingrich advocates include:
Get the President to dump a substantial amount from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve immediately.
Look for oil where it is.
Maximize alternative fuels.
"The longer Congress refuses to take definite action in solving this crisis, the more the price of gasoline will increase and the more our families will be hurt financially," he said.
American Family Association is a pro-family advocacy organization with more than 3 million online supporters.
