NILES – Space is limited for the Fitness and Lifestyle Improvement Plan (FLIP) program that will begin Tuesday, July 29 at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA.
The program spans eight weeks and features specialized classes to teach those who take part how a combination of exercise and nutrition helps in managing weight gain.
"This safe and proven weight management program is a great way to reduce body fat, increase self esteem, make a positive lifestyle change and have fun in the process," said Amy Lockwood, MPH, RD in a press release by Lakeland HealthCare.
"FLIP participants can feel comfortable improving their health and losing weight because the program's instructors are clinical experts who specialize in nutrition and fitness counseling."
According to the release, the total cost of the program is $250. That amount will get those who take part in the program a two-month membership to the Niles-Buchanan YMCA, assessment of weight, body composition, girth measurement, blood pressure and cardiovascular fitness. The nutrition education classes, which run throughout the eight-week period, are hands on and offer "proven techniques to help foster a healthy relationship with food."
As the program comes to an end, the release states, there are also support groups available to participants.
"After the first four weeks in FLIP, I lost 17 pounds and inches everywhere," Marilyn Riley of Baroda, who has participated in the program. "Now that I know how to eat and exercise, I am still losing weight. I wish I had joined FLIP a long time ago."
The program is provided by Lakeland Nutrition Counseling and Lakeland Rehabilitation Services. The classes will be held at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA at 905 N. Front St., Niles. Those interested in registering or looking for additional information can call 687-1823.
