Lloyd E. Bywaters, Jr., 49, of Edwardsburg, died suddenly on Saturday, June 28, 2008, in his home,
Cremation will take place and a celebration of his life will take place on Monday, July 7, at 6 p.m. on the Rocket football field behind the Edwardsburg Intermediate School building.
He was born on April 26, 1959, in North Kansas City, Mo., the son of Lloyd E. and Dorothy Mae (Slemp) Bywaters and moved to this area 10 years ago from Lansing.
He married the former Laura Devlin on Feb. 24, 1950, in East Lansing and she survives.
Additional surviving family includes two sons, Devin Michael Bywaters and Jack Dayton Bywaters, both at home; his father, Lloyd E. Bywaters, Sr. of Texas; a sister, Renee Craven of Northboro, Iowa; a brother, Roger Bywaters of North Carolina and a host of other family members.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Mae Bywaters.
He was a coach for both Rocket Football and Little League in Edwardsburg and was vice president of the Edwardsburg Athletic Boosters Club. He could be found frequently working the counter in the concession stand, selling tickets and encouraging the players and working whenever needed.
He was a diehard University of Michigan fan and the family would like everyone to wear maize and blue colors to his celebration service. The family requests you also bring folding chairs to the service, like you do when attending a Rocket Football game.
Donations may be made to the Lloyd Bywaters, Jr. Rocket Football Fund, c/o Edwardsburg Rocket Football Association, P.O. Box 429, Edwardsburg, MI 49112. The funds will be used to help financially challenged athletes.
