CASSOPOLIS – A special bake sale will be conducted at the Cassopolis Village Farmers' Market on Saturday July 5. The proceeds will be given to Helping Hands of Cassopolis. Please stop by and stock up on baked goods and support a good cause at the same time!
Helping Hands, which is a well-established organization in Cassopolis, was begun in the 1980s by the then pastor of the Cassopolis United Methodist Church, the Rev. Charles Van Lente.
He arrived in Cassopolis from the Muskegon area where churches had united to provide a similar ministry. A $60,000 start up grant was applied for and received, which allowed the organization to work out of its present Broadway Street location, which had been a former grocery store. The Rev. Van Lente was the first president of the Helping Hands board of directors.
The CUMC Missions Circle chaired by Jane Moraw is coordinating the Bake Sale.
